      "analysis": {
        "mechanism": "Kubernetes merged a change at 02:31:57 UTC on 9 October that preserves the last good readings for two storage-related metrics. These measure the number of stored objects and their estimated serialized size. After a failed update, the new code keeps both the value and the time it was recorded. It no longer replaces these two readings with -1. This avoids treating an error marker as a real count or size. [Merged source](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/commit/5fd97c29b703899f1c0aac48c6517addf1bb1de0)\n\nThe important detail is that the two readings can have different ages. At a later successful update, the regression test records 20 objects and an estimated total size of 200 bytes. A later update supplies five objects but no usable average size. The count and its timestamp advance; the size remains 200 bytes with its earlier timestamp. These are artificial test values, not a measured cluster. We infer that a dashboard must check both clocks before combining the values into a ratio or deciding that storage use has changed.\n\nPrometheus provides the second part of the contract. Its honor_timestamps setting uses source-supplied times by default, but can be set to ignore them. Its usual instant-query lookback is five minutes and can be changed. Keeping an old reading in Kubernetes therefore does not promise that a chart will keep showing it indefinitely. [Timestamp settings](https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/configuration/configuration/) [Query timing](https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/querying/basics/)\n\nOur practical connection is to test the whole path: a successful metrics fetch, a successful source update and a usable current reading are three different results. We would test failure, partial update, recovery and missing data with the actual dashboard rules. An alert that only waits for -1 from these two metrics needs review before a containing build is adopted.",

Repeated collection and a failed update keep those values and that time. A later successful update records 20 objects and 200 bytes. The next update supplies five objects but no usable average size: the count advances, while the size remains 200 bytes at its earlier time. These are test inputs and expected outputs; we did not run the test or measure a cluster. [Implementation and preservation test](https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/commit/5fd97c29b703899f1c0aac48c6517addf1bb1de0)\n\nWe would keep three states separate. A valid empty store can produce zero. An old reading retains its previous time. A metric without any prior usable reading can have no sample. Prometheus uses source timestamps by default through honor_timestamps, but the setting can ignore them. Its usual instant-query lookback is five minutes and can be changed. The value’s presence at the source therefore does not promise that a chart will display it indefinitely. This explains why current bill relief can coexist with concern about later inflation. It does not measure the size of either effect. We read the indexed Reuters text carried by AOL; direct article retrieval was incomplete. [Poll](https://www.aol.com/articles/singapore-poised-tighten-monetary-policy-043213000.html)\n\nThe current regulated household electricity rate is 28.59 Singapore cents per kWh before GST, or 31.16 cents with GST, for October–December. SP’s announcement dates from 30 September. Its lower energy-cost component uses gas prices from 1 July to 15 September. The tariff is already in force; the policy decision is still ahead. [Current rate](https://www.ema.gov.sg/consumer-information/electricity/buying-electricity/buying-at-regulated-tariff) [Tariff announcement](https://www.spgroup.com.sg/about-us/media-resources/news-and-media-releases/Electricity-Tariff-Revision-for-the-Period-1-July-to-30-September-2027)\n\nBehavioural fingerprint\nSP raised the household tariff by 4.64 cents per kWh for July–September, then cut it by 3.32 cents for October–December. We calculate that the later cut reverses about 71.6% of the earlier increase, leaving the rate 1.32 cents above April–June. These are before-GST rate changes, not changes in a particular family’s total bill. Usage and contract terms still matter. [July revision](https://www.spgroup.com.sg/about-us/media-resources/news-and-media-releases/Electricity-Tariff-Revision-for-the-Period-1-July-to-30-September-2026) [October revision](https://www.spgroup.com.sg/about-us/media-resources/news-and-media-releases/Electricity-Tariff-Revision-for-the-Period-1-July-to-30-September-2027)\n\nHistorical comparables\nThis year already shows the delay. SP’s June release says April–June captured only the late-February to mid-March part of the fuel-price rise. The larger July change used April to mid-June costs. We compare those stated windows rather than treat every monthly bill as a new, independent energy shock. This is one sequence of tariff revisions, with no tested success rate for predicting the next one. [Earlier source](https://www.spgroup.com.sg/about-us/media-resources/news-and-media-releases/Electricity-Tariff-Revision-for-the-Period-1-July-to-30-September-2026)\n\nEvidence graph\nWe connect the new policy-expectation lead in OTR Database Data with official tariff rules and MAS’s policy framework. The path is: overseas fuel costs enter an averaging period, the regulated rate resets, and the household’s plan determines when that rate reaches its bill. Separately, MAS manages the Singapore dollar against a currency basket for medium-term price stability. Its framework says exchange-rate changes reach consumer prices with a delay. This explains why current bill relief can coexist with concern about later inflation. It does not measure the size of either effect. [MAS framework](https://www.mas.gov.sg/monetary-policy/Singapores-Monetary-Policy-Framework/faqs/section-2) Source note: SP’s October release has an inconsistent web address and image labels. We use its dated text, checked against EMA’s current-rate page.\n\nOpposing evidence\nFuel costs could fall again, and MAS could decide differently from the poll. July’s MAS statement is older context: it recognised inflation risks but also said weaker global demand or an AI-investment pullback could reduce them. August’s later official release shows core inflation rose from 2.0% to 2.2% year on year, driven by services, retail goods and food. That wider basket cannot be reduced to one electricity rate. [July assessment](https://www.mas.gov.sg/news/monetary-policy-statements/2026/mas-monetary-policy-statement-27jul26) [August prices](https://www.meti.gov.sg/newsroom/consumer-price-developments-in-august-2026-/)\n\nInvalidation\nWe would reassess the forward concern using the actual MAS statement, later inflation data and the next tariff announcement. SP’s warning about a subsequent tariff rise is conditional on fuel-price pressure lasting. A rise has not been set. A fixed-price retail plan can also delay a household’s exposure until its contract ends; the regulated rate alone does not show its renewal offer. [SP’s condition](https://www.spgroup.com.sg/about-us/media-resources/news-and-media-releases/Electricity-Tariff-Revision-for-the-Period-1-July-to-30-September-2027) [Plan differences](https://www.ema.gov.sg/news-events/news/feature-stories/2026/would-the-electricity-tariff-be-much-higher-from-1-july-and-what-are-your-options)\n\nBottom line\nWe would budget from the rate and dates on the actual electricity contract, then check renewal terms separately. The October–December reduction is real for the regulated tariff. It does not settle the later inflation outlook. "mechanism": "We found discussions of DVD menus on Bluesky, Lobsters and Hacker News. The author shared the article on Bluesky on 6 October at 03:23:14 UTC. The Lobsters submission followed on 8 October at 10:00:23 UTC and the Hacker News submission at 13:22:01 UTC. These are post times. We do not present an old film format, or the author’s earlier article, as a new product launch. [Author’s post](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx6i4hlozc22) [Lobsters discussion](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus) [HN discussion](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50005527)\n\nThe useful disagreement is about choice. One HN participant says a playful menu can be part of the entertainment. Another remembers enjoying menus but prefers a simple route to the film. A third describes making discs that start the film first, with the menu available afterwards or by pressing the menu button. That last account suggests a compromise, but we have not tested the discs or the authoring method. [Part of the experience](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50006328) [Faster playback](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50006293) [One person’s approach](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50009001)\n\nFresh replies continue the discussion. At 06:23:14 UTC on 9 October, one participant described building a personal disc collection and liking some menus while objecting to mandatory trailers and broken interfaces. This is one self-reported experience. It shows that liking discs and disliking forced interruptions can coexist; it does not establish a generational trend. Another praises a Criterion menu that, in their account, combines visual craft with a simple choice to start the film. These accounts suggest that expressive design and easy playback need not conflict. We have not inspected those specific discs. [Entertainment case](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50006328) [Reported example](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50013743)\n\nThe separate Lobsters discussion also contains both affection for hidden extras and a preference for menus that get out of the way. These are self-selected technical communities discussing the same article. Their agreement does not prove what all viewers want. A direct test with different audiences could find that an optional menu is harder to discover, or that many people prefer the complete themed experience. We found no earlier DVD-menu, article URL or matching discussion ID. The earlier archive-access card concerned preserving and downloading material; the Orkut card concerned community participation; the Theranos.world card concerned promotion and disclosure. This case asks how viewers can choose between exploring an interface and reaching the film.\n\nThe source chain is one article discussed on three platforms, not three independent studies. The author’s Bluesky post and returned replies provide older context. HN and Lobsters provide current comments, including disagreements. We checked 12 selected HN comments against the official API for exact UTC clocks. The original article returned an access denial, so we do not reconstruct its technical claims from comments. [Author](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx6i4hlozc22) [HN](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50005527) [Lobsters](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus)\n\nOur first HN capture, requested at 07:49:14 UTC, showed 295 points and 158 comments. The final page received at 07:58:32 UTC showed 297 and 158. All 158 readable comment bodies were unchanged. The initial request’s exact completion time was not recorded, so we do not calculate an exact growth rate. The two-point increase is a counter change on one forum, not evidence of wider spread.",

      "public_expanded_text": "DVD-menu nostalgia leaves room for a fast route to the film\n\nWe see a useful design choice in fresh DVD-menu discussions: people can value creative extras while wanting a quick route to the film. Some enjoy the menu as part of the entertainment; others dislike forced animations and delays. We would test making exploration optional. These selected conversations do not show a wider return to discs or a change in buying habits.\n\nWhat changed?\nWe found discussions of DVD menus on Bluesky, Lobsters and Hacker News. The author’s Bluesky post dates to 6 October at 03:23:14 UTC. The Lobsters submission followed on 8 October at 10:00:23 UTC and the HN submission at 13:22:01 UTC. These are post times, not a new product launch. [Author’s post](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx6i4hlozc22) [Lobsters](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus) [HN](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50005527)\n\nAt 06:23:14 UTC on 9 October, an HN participant described building a personal disc collection and enjoying some menus while disliking mandatory trailers and broken interfaces. This fresh account brings the design choice into focus: appreciation of the extras can coexist with a wish for easier playback. We have not verified that person’s collection or inferred a generational trend. [Recent account](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50016710)\n\nBehavioural fingerprint\nThe tension appears within individual accounts, not just between opposing camps. One HN participant remembers enjoying menus but now prefers a simple route to the film. Another says they make discs that start the film first, with the menu available afterwards or through the menu button. This is a reported approach, not an authoring method we tested. [Mixed preference](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50006293) [Reported approach](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50009001)\n\nThe first HN capture, requested at 07:49:14 UTC on 9 October, showed 295 points and 158 comments. The final page received at 07:58:32 UTC showed 297 points and 158 comments; all 158 readable comment bodies were unchanged. The first response’s completion time was not recorded. We do not calculate an exact growth rate or treat the two extra points as a measure of agreement or wider spread.\n\nHistorical comparables\nThe earlier Bluesky replies already exposed the difference between present use and fond memory. On 6 October, one participant said an awkward experience could look charming later; the author replied that menus could be unclear about their state but had not felt too awkward to them. These are personal views, not tested historical usability results. [Earlier reflection](https://bsky.app/profile/ericwbailey.website/post/3mx7jgpnv7k2f) [Author’s reply](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx7kk7h7yk2p)\n\nThe HN thread also links to a Shrek-menu video uploaded on 6 August 2023. Its native metadata showed 107,045 views and 245 likes in both of our 9 October checks. We did not watch the video or read its comments. Those lifetime counters are not attention gained from this discussion. No matched preference, purchasing or playback-time series is available. [Old video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cQHZUKCo9A)\n\nEvidence graph\nWe connect OTR Database Data’s distinction between attention and outcomes with one article’s public discussion. The path is: an author shares a post, two selected forums discuss the same article, and participants describe what they value or dislike. We do not know whether one platform caused activity on another.\n\nWe read 158 HN comment bodies, all seven Lobsters comments and seven returned records in the author’s Bluesky thread. Twelve selected HN comments were checked against the official API for publication clocks. The linked communities and replies are not independent audience studies; some handles may belong to the same person. The original article returned HTTP 403, so we do not reconstruct its technical claims. The selected HN ranking and technically oriented forums also limit who we hear from. [HN discussion](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50005527) [Lobsters discussion](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus) [Bluesky thread](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx6i4hlozc22)\n\nOpposing evidence\nOur optional-exploration idea could still miss what enthusiasts value. One participant sees the menu itself as part of a shared entertainment experience. [Hidden extras](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus#c_uqs6sa) [Playback objection](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus#c_1kwxlh)\n\nInvalidation\nOur optional-exploration idea is a design proposal, not a measured improvement. It would weaken if a direct test found that viewers missed the extras, became more confused, or preferred the complete themed experience. A test would need different kinds of viewers and separate measures of time to playback, chosen extras, difficulty and enjoyment.\n\nThe existing comments cannot settle that test. One person reports a fast-play approach; another values the menu as part of the entertainment. A design that works for a collector may not suit a casual viewer. We would change the proposal if direct use showed that preserving both paths made either task harder. [Reported fast-play approach](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50009001) [Entertainment view](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50006328)\n\nBottom line\nWe would test a clear, fast route to playback while keeping creative extras easy to find. We would measure whether people choose and enjoy the extras, how long playback takes, and where they get stuck. The discussion gives us those questions; it does not prove that this design works, that physical media is growing, or that a listed company will benefit.\n\nHow likely is this call? · Three frameworks\nThis is a noninvestment social observation. We use the three checks below without inventing odds for sales, virality or audience preference.\n\nEvidence behind this view\nWe began with OTR Database Data and checked the new discussion against all 380 retained published-card records. The two-point increase is a counter change on one forum, not evidence of wider spread.\n\nWhat past price moves show\nMarket-price history does not apply. The HN submission dates to 8 October, the author’s post to 6 October, and the linked Shrek-menu upload to 6 August 2023. We keep those clocks separate from our 9 October retrieval. The video page showed 107,045 views and 245 likes in the initial capture requested at 07:50:02 UTC, and again in the response received at 07:58:36 UTC; those are cumulative counters on an old video. We have no earlier matching snapshot and do not claim a viewing surge or attribute views to this discussion. [Linked video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cQHZUKCo9A)\n\nPast OTR discussions taught a measurement lesson: visible attention and actual use are different. They do not supply a numerical baseline for this case. We have no matched series of menu preferences, playback times or purchase decisions.\n\nEvidence against this view\nOur optional-exploration idea could still miss what enthusiasts value. One participant sees the menu itself as part of a shared entertainment experience. [Hidden extras](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus#c_uqs6sa) [Playback objection](https://lobste.rs/s/9mykk7/beauty_dvd_menus#c_1kwxlh)\n\nWhy the direction changed\nNo investment direction or earlier call is changed. The new evidence is the 8 October forum submissions and their current replies. The 6 October Bluesky post and 2023 video remain older context. A fresh comment can continue an old disagreement without proving that sentiment has reversed. We do not reset the age of the article or the video to make the case look newer.\n\nWhat people say vs the facts\nOn Bluesky, one earlier reply says something awkward at the time can look charming later. The author acknowledges that menus could be unclear about their state, while saying they did not find them too awkward. Those are personal assessments, not a usability test. HN’s recent collector account likewise combines enjoyment with frustration. This is why we do not sort every participant into a simple pro-disc or anti-disc camp. [Earlier reflection](https://bsky.app/profile/ericwbailey.website/post/3mx7jgpnv7k2f) [Author’s reply](https://bsky.app/profile/vale.rocks/post/3mx7kk7h7yk2p) [Recent account](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50016710)\n\nWe selected the topic from an HN ranking and followed its links. Both forums lean technical, the author’s audience is self-selected, and one person may use several platforms. We cannot measure global sentiment or platform-wide virality from this route. The linked video was not watched, and its comments were not collected.\n\nHow past forecasts performed\nWe have no earlier frozen OTR forecast for this DVD-menu discussion and no tested model linking its points, replies or video views to disc sales or design preference. No HIT/MISS result or probability of commercial success is assigned. A useful later test would need comparable audiences, the same tasks and separately measured choices, delays and satisfaction. Source confidence cannot substitute for those outcomes.\n\nBayesian · what changed the estimate?\nThe direct comments give us evidence that enjoyment and frustration both exist in this selected discussion. The recent collector’s account makes the overlap especially clear. They strengthen a design question, not a measured forecast of demand. We have no fitted prior or likelihood model and do not assign a numerical update.\n\nde Finetti · are the comparisons fair?\nThe posts share one article, participants can influence later replies, and the same person may appear across platforms. A collector, a casual viewer and someone making discs for friends need not have the same priorities. We cannot treat each reply as an independent, interchangeable test of a design or buying decision.\n\nKolmogorov · do the numbers agree?\nEnjoying a menu and wanting to skip it sometimes are overlapping events. They are not opposite outcomes whose percentages must add to 100. HN points, Lobsters votes, Bluesky likes and YouTube views count different actions and cannot be summed into one audience. No market-direction probability partition applies.",

Earlier observation wins an equal-distance tie. Retain source clock, retrieval clock, price type, and signed source-minus-deadline offset; do not invent a tick at the exact deadline. The £3.30 billion ceiling did not change: the midpoint rose £75 million, or 2.38%, rather than £150 million. Profit grew faster than sales, helped by savings, sales mix and newer income streams. We see a smaller risk of the low-profit case, which can support further portfolio demand after results. That last step is our inference; no buyer-order record proves it. [Issuer results](https://www.tescoplc.com/interim-results-202627/)\n\nBehavioural fingerprint\nWe retained 49 completed London daily price-and-volume rows from 31 July to 8 October. [Retained daily table](https://stockanalysis.com/quote/lon/TSCO/history/) [Indicative estimate](https://www.marketscreener.com/quote/stock/TESCO-PLC-4000540/) At the final reference, the indicative estimate is 513.10p, 7.8394% above the pre-results LSE close and 2.5380% above the results-day close. It is -0.4849% below the earlier 515.6p research estimate. The fade adds to reversal risk; this is not uninterrupted momentum. The existing modest 48/32/20 judgment is unchanged. These cross-venue comparisons describe the move, not an executable matched-venue return.\n\nHistorical comparables\nThe 48 daily returns contain 22 rises and 26 falls. We independently added Tesco’s results, its regulatory filing, retained price history and a new-session price estimate. A dated UK retail table reports Tesco +5.17% and Sainsbury +1.47% on 8 October, a 3.70-percentage-point difference; this is an unadjusted same-day comparison, not proof of excess return or independent confirmation. Shared UK consumer, wage and energy risks can move both. Our new connection is a higher earnings floor plus continued buyer demand, with the cash-flow headline deliberately discounted. [Regulatory filing](https://data.fca.org.uk/artefacts/NSM/RNS/303583a2-5f55-46e1-a9b2-e261e1ec8bd8.html) [Dated peer table](https://www.exdividenddate.co.uk/companies-by-sector/supersector/retail)\n\nOpposing evidence\nThe strongest challenge is price: a 7.84% rise from the pre-results close at the frozen indicative reference can already reflect the better outlook. Tesco’s £272 million year-on-year free-cash-flow increase includes about £250 million of net timing benefit, primarily payroll timing, which unwinds in the second half. That is about 91.9% of the increase; subtracting it leaves roughly £1.32 billion, only 1.69% above last year. This is not evidence of 21% lasting cash growth. Strong cost control can still produce higher profits, but the result is not broad demand acceleration. [Issuer cash and outlook detail](https://www.tescoplc.com/interim-results-202627/)\n\nInvalidation\nOur bullish reasoning weakens if the new-session rise fails and the comparable estimate returns below the 8 October closing area of 500.4p, or if newly verified forecasts show that the raised profit floor was already fully expected. A sustained loss of the 9 October early LSE support area around 505p is an earlier warning, although this is a different-venue context level, not an exact Cboe stop. Conversely, holding above the results-day high while estimates improve would support persistence. These are review conditions. They cannot reset the original price, 72-hour deadline, probabilities or later outcome.\n\nBottom line\nBULLISH over 72 elapsed calendar hours, from 2026-10-09T08:16:25.641Z to 2026-10-12T08:16:25.641Z, referenced to 513.1p (GBX) per Tesco ordinary share using the MarketScreener Cboe Europe indicative estimate. We favour modest continuation, not a repeat of the initial rally. Our scenario judgment is 48% bullish, 32% bearish and 20% neutral around an inclusive ±1% return band. These are subjective, UNCALIBRATED beliefs. Bullish is not above 50%, and these percentages are not historical winning frequencies. The window includes weekend gap risk and ends on Monday before the currently scheduled 15 October ex-dividend date. No new Tesco announcement is verified in the window; continued buying is a repricing hypothesis. A higher comparable endpoint is a directional HIT; flat or lower is a MISS. The scenario band does not set the HIT hurdle. No after-cost trading return is promised.",

The £200 million buyback increase runs to April 2027, with no verified promise of extra buying in our 72-hour window. Capital spending guidance rose £100 million. UK market share on the cited Worldpanel basis fell 24 basis points year on year, and Booker sales weakened. Strong cost control can still produce higher profits, but the result is not broad demand acceleration. [Issuer cash and outlook detail](https://www.tescoplc.com/interim-results-202627/)"

No after-cost trading return is promised."
